Week 3 - Honesty & Business Ethics

I loved this week's reading so much. I am inspired by the principles and lessons that I learned this week. I was listening to General Conference today and was amazed at how many of the messages coordinated with our reading this week.

I was most affected by "True Blue, Through and Through". I loved every bit of the message about integrity and how important it is in our lives. As I read this quote-

“If you need someone who will have the courage and determination too face the world at its worst, her am I, send me. If you need husbands and wives who will be faithful to each other, raise their children in admonition of the Lord, and defend the family, here am I, send me. If you need men and women who will see through the lies of the world about family and gender and intimacy, and who will never confuse being tolerant of others with tolerating sin, here am I, send me. If you need men and women who can think straight in a confused, twisted world, here am I, send me. If you need men and women who will be fearless in building the kingdom of God, please, here am I, send me.”

- I was overwhelmed by the thought that each one of my children probably said something like this. They are strong and valiant people who are having to stand firm and strong in a world that is so confused and upside down. It was a tender and sweet thing for me to ponder on. I shared my thoughts with my family which was so special.

Sister Dew suggested "seven things that will help us become men and women of integrity:
  1. Decide today once and for all, that you will be worthy of trust
  2. Have faith that the Lord can and will help you, and then diligently seek His help
  3. Make covenants and keep them
  4. Stand up for what you believe
  5. Expect your integrity to be challenged
  6. Don't give up
  7. Covenant- or perhaps I should say, renew your covenant--with our Father and His Son to do what you came here to do
I want to commit them to memory.

I was at dinner last night with a few friends and we talked a lot about the things that our kids are dealing with in our day. That it isn't just the non-member kids at their school that are not living great standards. It is the kids that they go to church with and seminary, etc. I bore testimony to them that it is worth it to stand for the right with your kids. That as we stand for the right they feel more confident to stand strong for the right. Even when it's hard, even especially when its hard. I loved this quote by President Benson, "I feel it is good strategy to stand up for the right, even when it is unpopular. Perhaps I should say, especially when it is unpopular"

And this quote in the Personal Progress book by President Benson:

"Give me a young woman who loves home and family, who reads and ponders the scriptures daily, who has a burning testimony of the Book of Mormon. Give me a young woman who faithfully attends her church meetings, who is a seminary graduate, who has earned her Young Woman Recognition Award and wears it with pride!Give me a young woman who is virtuous and who has maintained her personal purity, who will not settle for less than a temple marriage, ans I will give you a young woman who will perform miracles for the Lord now and throughout eternity."

I felt some real direction and answers to prayer that came through the reading and through listening to General Conference. That is such a tender mercy and I am so grateful.
